Are face Primers important? Absolutely! Cake Face or Filter Face..? Deciding to wear a primer or not is going to give you this answer. Face Primers are necessary in everyone’s makeup bag, it’s main job is to protect your skin and help your foundation wear longer on your skin throughout the day, flawlessly. You can even use primers without wearing a foundation as well to just protect your face. When I first started wearing foundation I didn’t see the need for a face primer or even knew what they were for that matter. Until the end of the day or a night out and my face looked like melted plastic! And it felt like I had cake face, and that was a no go for me. I knew then that I’d be applying primer all the time to give me that smooth flawless Instagram filter look. Lol! Also, the chemicals used in makeup can be harmful to your skin, so you should want to protect your skin at all cost anyway. There are also color corrector primers as well that can blur out blemishes, you can use concealer correctors too, as well as use as an all over face primer. Importantly, don’t just pick up a primer and expect it to do what you want. Not all primers are the same type. You have primers that help with different types of skin and conditions.
For example you have primers that minimizes pores, and shine in the T-zone which you would use Matte primer, these type of primers can also be used for the oily skin type. Then you have hydrating primers that’s perfect for dry and dehydrated skin which bring me to spray primers, that also help with dry and/or dehydrated skin types (but there are brands that have multiple spray primers for different skin types.) In my personal collection of face primers, I have different types for different occasions and to be honest, depends on my mood. My personal collection consists of high end primers and affordable primers. When I’m doing a day look that doesn’t consist of heavy makeup application, I’ll used my ELF Cosmetics Poreless Face Primer or Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. They are silicone-based primers that help keep my skin smooth and in place during the day when I’m using minimal makeup. But they do move around so make sure you do set your face with a setting spray. My night time routine is a little different and I depend on my high-end staples to get me through the dance floor and countless interactions with random people commenting me on my makeup. Hourglass Veil Face Primer, Skindinavia Oil-Control Spray Primer, and Fenty Cosmetics Pro Filter and occasionally Huda Beauty Complexion Perfection Pre-Makeup Base. With these Face Primers I normally have minimal oil on my face and my makeup in still set in place. They dont budge/move and I’ve never had to do a check up or apply face powder to turn down the shine. By the end of the night I have a healthy glow or healthy-looking amount of oil on my skin. Would I splurge on face primer? Yes and no. As you know I have Oily combination so the higher end face primers are beneficial but that does not exclude affordable face primers that you can pick up online or at your local Drug store or Walmart.
